As Roland Garros approaches, Wawrinka gives his opinion on Djokovic and Nadal: "He's still the favorite"

At 39, Stan Wawrinka is no longer the immense champion he once was. Winner of three Grand Slams, the Swiss was one of the few players who could regularly challenge the dominance of the "big four". Having had a tricky 2024 season so far, "Stan the man" continues to scour the ATP circuit week after week. Ranked 49th at the start of the year, he is currently 87th in the world.

As the 2024 French Open draws ever closer (qualifying begins on Monday), the Swiss champion was asked about the subject. Turning to the case of Djokovic, whose poor form is raising questions, Wawrinka was keen to calm things down: "I think he's still the favourite for the French Open. Of course, he hasn't had the results he wanted in recent weeks, but we know that he can raise his game in Grand Slams and that he always finds a way to play his best tennis."

Also asked about Rafael Nadal's potential presence, the 2015 French Open winner admitted he was very curious: "Unless he has a big physical problem and can't train anymore, I think he'll play. I'm looking forward to seeing what he does and how his body reacts, because from what I hear, it's also his body that will decide when he stops. I think if he doesn't get injured over the next few months, his level will come back to the top."

“The GOAT will remain the GOAT, regardless…” I love it. Well said and very true.
