Will Cornet announce her retirement this Saturday?

Will Cornet announce her retirement this Saturday?

Even if the news has not yet been confirmed, it seems inevitable. The 34-year-old former world no. 11 seems on the verge of saying goodbye.

Indeed, an interview with Canal + will be broadcast this evening (from 7pm) and it seems that the Frenchwoman will be announcing her retirement. The short extract released by Canal + on social networks leaves little doubt as to the nature of her announcement: "It's not an interview like the others, that's true. I have a little announcement to make. I'd prepared myself for this interview, but I've still got a bit of emotion in my stomach. It's going to be official soon and obviously, it's not a small thing." (see video)

If the news is confirmed, it means that the Frenchwoman, a professional since 2008, will be putting away her rackets. The player who reached the Round of 16 at Roland Garros (in 2015 and 2017) and the quarter-finals at the Australian Open (in 2022) is set to bid farewell to the French public, probably at Roland Garros.

The tournament, already marked by Rafael Nadal's last dance, will probably have to plan a second tribute ceremony. For several seasons now, a page has been turning in the world of tennis, with many iconic players bowing out (Federer, Serena Williams, Isner, Del Potro, Tsonga, Sharapova, etc.).

If the news is confirmed this evening, we can look forward to an emotional Roland Garros for the French camp.

Realistically Nadal might not play RG, I dont see him tarnishing his record if he knows he can't compete

You do not have to prove anything. You have played your part.

He's making a fool of himself. Call it a day and retire.

I disagree with most of you, if this really is his final year on tour I think he should play RG and make a farewell speech, regardless in which round he exits. We know, and he knows, he cannot win maj

Dear friends, I wasn't able to watch this another demolition of Rafael, but I strongly believe that clay is not his preferred surface. Probably is grass......since some people keep calling him goat.
