Swiatek lashes out at the WTA:

Swiatek lashes out at the WTA: "We have no decision-making power".

Unsurprisingly, Iga Swiatek got off to a very quiet start in Madrid. After an easy first-round victory (6-4, 6-1 over Xiyu Wang), the world number 1 did even better on Saturday. Up against Sorana Cirstea (world no. 30), the Pole was untouchable (victory 6-1, 6-1 in 1h17).

Between her two victories, the three-time French Open winner spoke to the press. Swiatek took the opportunity to send out a strong message. According to her, the WTA doesn't listen to the players: "I've learned that, no matter how many meetings we organize, we have no decision-making power. [...] I wonder if the WTA will finally make some changes. Negotiations continue. I'm curious to know what will be done. We travel to a lot of places, I try to concentrate on my tennis and I don't have space in my head to think about other things. [...] The WTA's choices? It's sometimes uncomfortable. We've had a few situations where it would be good for the WTA to learn from the past." (comments relayed by Punto de Break).
